Monsters in the Media

For years monsters have been portrayed in the media as far from what they really are.  Giants squids, dinosaurs, and monster families may occupy audiences, but as far as every day monsters go, they are nothing more than entertainment.  Today, monsters come in the form of super thin models and child beauty pageants.  These, although they may seem subtle in comparison to thrillers and horror films, can do far worse damage in the long run to the emotional and psychological mind of teenagers.  Parents now take on new roles.  Instead of checking for monsters under the bed or in the closet, parents now must encourage their children that every size is beautiful, and every color if just as wonderful as the next.  These physical stereotypes may haunt children and teens far longer than any "scary movie" could.
